Oklahoma Festival of the Arts - Photo Highlights

We had a quick and fun family outing to the Oklahoma Festival of the Arts. Van enjoyed his first funnel cake. Warning: funnel cake powdered sugar is hazardous on a windy day! We were all covered.

Van's Muse - Oklahoma Festival of the Arts

Perhaps we have an artist on our hands? Van took the control of my digital camera while we were at the Arts Festival. Here's his portfolio:

Perfect Editorial on the Oklahoma House of Representatives' Vote Against the Flaming Lips State Rock Song

If you follow me on Facebook, you'll see that I posted many links about the Oklahoma House of Representatives' vote against the Flaming Lips' Do You Realize?? as the official state rock song. This video editorial articulates my feelings. While an official state rock song seems trivial, it symbolizes to me our state's inability to embrace what makes us special. Why do we have Oklahoma Creativity projects if the legislature maintains these attitudes? There can be no rise of the creative class.

If you're unfamiliar with the story, the good news is that Gov. Brad Henry plans to move forward with an executive order to honor Do You Realize?? as the official state rock song.

Glamour Girl

Some parts of being a working mom just aren't glamorous. Take this for an example: Derek and I have arranged for Van to spend the night with his Granny so we can... wait for it... wait for it... clean. Yes, no romantic date night. I've got plans with Scrubbin' Bubbles, a mop and a ton of clean, unfolded laundry.

It's not a great 2nd birthday unless the cops are called

That's right, the cops were called during Van's 2nd birthday party at our neighborhood park. Apparently, we were too noisy for an "anonymous" caller. Must of been our awesome pinata.

In addition, we celebrated Chayton's 2nd birthday (he was born on the same day as Van).

And lastly, we partied again for Isaiah's 2nd birthday.

80 Easter Eggs in the Basket

You know your child is spoiled when the collection count for the annual church egg hunt is 80+. Here are some highlights from the day.

Handy Manny Birthday Cake

Like any good cake, it all starts with butter.
Taste tests are essential to good birthday cakes.
Maggie was interested in all the kitchen commotion.
The Handy Manny tools are already looking good.
Here's the completed Handy Manny Birthday Cake. The gang's all here: Dusty, Squeeze, Rusty, Stretch, Turner, Phillipe and Pat.
All the hard work tastes good.
Happy Birthday Van!

Turtle Taste Test

Van Licks the Turtle Tank from Brooke Adcox on Vimeo.

I was happily watching my home videos from the Oklahoma Aquarium, when I noticed Van does a little "taste test" of the turtle tank at the end of this clip.

These moments on tape explain so, so much. Including, my lack of parenting skills. Listen closely for a "Van don't lick the turtle tank."

You won't hear it, because I didn't notice. Egad!
