But the cure is definitely not more cowbell. In fact, it is doxicyclene.
I will never ever again declare that I was excited about finding out I had a fever, even if it does affirm my feelings of sickness. Because, I am really sick. Two trips to the doctor, a trip to a specialist, blood tests, and tears, we have found out I have Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever.
Sounds gross, right? Lets just say I would never wish it upon anyone. Yesterday was the first day in more than 10 days that I didn't have a fever!
Hopefully, I am finally on the right medicine to clear up the problem. If you ever know in your heart that something is really wrong, don't let a doctor talk you into thinking you have a virus or an ear infection. Be persistent. If Derek and I hadn't bullied my doctor into sending me to a specialist ASAP, I would still be on the wrong medication and getting much, much sicker.
Derek and I are mourning the death of a faithful sister in Christ, Melinda Evans. She was a beautiful young mother who was devoted to her family, friends, and church. I didn't interact with Melinda very often, but if you ever wonder if you really influence people, I knew Melinda was special person. Why? Because she was the role model for the people that were my role models.
Melinda and her husband Mark worked hard for the University Outreach and Alameda family. They demonstrated to us and our friends how to transition from college kids to a young married couple to a young family, a very important ministry for many people.
In fact, Derek and I were touched by Mark and Melinda just a month ago. I was working on a story about the new Colcord Hotel in downtown OKC. Derek and I were waiting in the lobby for our tour of the hotel to begin, and Derek heard Mark Evans checking in. The world is so small! We chatted briefly with Mark and Melinda. They were there celebrating their tenth anniversary. What a testament to another couple just shy of three years of marriage!
Even though Derek and I no longer attend services at Alameda, we still hurt with our Alameda family. Please pray for Mark, their three young children, and their families. But also remember to pray for those friends who were very close: Pam & Todd, Michelle & Russ, Greg & Chasity, Tim & Cindy, Rusty & Mitzi, and so many more. Please know that Derek and I, as well as the entire congregation of 50th Street Church of Christ, are praying for you.
If you work hard for Christ, you will touch many more people than you realize.
And the only cure is more cowbell.
Do you ever have one of those days when you don't feel well, but you talk yourself into believing you are just being a wimp. Well, I had one of those days until Derek took my temperature and I had a fever. I never had been more happy, because I had validation that I was really not feeling well.
So in my feverish stupor, I decided to check my email. And guess what? The new IKEA catalog is out! The textiles are really wild for 2008, a cross of the eighties and sixties, kind of Yellow Submarine inspired.
And, there was this picture in the IKEA catalog. Does this room remind you of anything? Yes, I am so trendy that I beat the IKEA catalog for Van's room design.
Now time to lay down...
Another man's trash is definitely our new treasure. One of Derek's Nichols Hills personal training clients decided to boot their high-end electric smoker to the curb, but not before she mentioned to Derek that he may take it and see if he could fix it.
Derek the Toolman Adcox did find the problem, and now we have a fully functional smoker. We had our peeps over for dinner to taste our first attempt at ribs. Sorry John, but they were finger lickin' good! We also had Mexican cornbread, fried okra, fresh green beans, and salad. Not to mention, we had Liz's delicious Oreo cream pie for a yummy, cool dessert.
I'm thinking the next smoked dinner party may be chicken or pork loin. I'm getting hungry already!
Van Update: The boy loves SportsCenter. He squeals with excitement over the theme song. I've never seen Derek more proud. I'm going to try to get it on video.
When Van was in my belly, I would keep telling Derek that he thought I was hysterical. And I was right! Van started laughing out loud today and we caught it on camera.
Anyone remember that N'Sync album by that same name? I digress.
I am writing my first official blog posting on my new laptop using my brand new wireless internet system. I'm very excited.
I would like to give props to a special person, my husband Derek. He just spent the past two hours working on the computer, and talking to several tech support people in India. But overcoming language barriers and hard work, he did it! Not the most fun way to close out our three year wedding anniversary, but it is inidicative of his committment to always keep me happy. I love him!
Today was Van's first official day of daycare! As you can see, he got a glowing review on his "note home." I know, I am a big dork, especially since I took the time to scan his first note home. But when you start daycare you worry that your kid my be the "problem child." Now Van does have some of my angelic genes, but Derek's mischievous side could really prove problematic for the boy. I haven' seen Van yet to further discuss his first day, but I'm sure he'll tell me in his baby talk that he is more stressed out about the current state of OU football than his present daycare situation. The OU quarterback situation has Van (or Van's interpreters) rather worried.
A technology update: I ordered the chocolate brown Dell laptop last week. DHL actually stopped by to drop it off today, but alas we weren't home. Don't they know I am eagerly anticipating its arrival?
