Van is one, and we've got the party pics to prove it. To be honest, there is no such thing as a "simple cake and ice cream" party, especially when you have 23 people over to your house! As you can see, the Hostess cupcake-inspired cake was a hit. But the star of the show: Van the Man.
Mobility: 10 steps quickly progresses to proficient walking. He is working on running.
Best Quality: Fearlessness
Worst Quality: Fearlessness
Hairstyle: Weird comb over

Best Friends: Maggie & Paw Paw
True Love: Momma, dadda, and food. All food. The kid is going to eat me out of house and home!
- Blame it on American Express commercials or my love of Celebrity Baby Blog, but lately I've been completely obsessed with anything Tina Fey. She is extremely talented and actually has interesting, real comments during interviews. She is also featured on the cover of this month's Vanity Fair, a impulse purchase while I was waiting for Van's prescription. I can count her as one of my "close personal friends" because I did request and receive an emailed quote from her for Oklahoma Today. (We were covering SNL cast member and Tulsan Bill Hader, who seems to be having an interesting career since that OKT story). Here are some of my favorite Tina Fey parenting quotes: "The life of the working parent is constantly saying, ‘This is impossible,’ and then you just keep doing it." &"I'm pretty organized -- or I used to be. I feel like that part of my brain has atrophied."
- If you call yourself an American, you have to listen to this week's This American Life broadcast (The Audacity of Government). I consume a lot of information, but this piece of journalism truly touched me. You can listen to the streaming audio or download an MP3 right on the website.
- If you are uninspired by poignant reporting, then check out the farting clock. Thanks gizmodo!
- Leave it to your children to blatantly point out your weaknesses, in our instance, cleaning. This week, Van has taken a liking to sweeping. I'm believe it is time to start training him to fold laundry
.
Attention book club members, I have finished the book. In fact, I finished it more than a month before the scheduled book club date. I know all those polite reminders that "you have enough time to get the book finished" have been directed at me!
To my other two dedicated readers, sorry to bore you with the news.
Thanks for all the comments on the last post. Yes, my 11.5 month son is over 27 pounds! Lets just say Derek and I are always complaining about sore backs. It is a good thing that he has started walking, he's up to 10 steps. I guess we should get around to baby proofing...
And here are the highlights from Easter. I expect comments on my expert taste in picking out his Easter attire. Another mom that deserves props, Pam with Payt's awesome argyle ensemble!
- I've arrived! Yesterday I applied a full face of makeup using one arm and holding a 27+ pound child in the other. The only flub, Van did manage to grab the mascara wand.
- I'm in the early planning mode of Van's 1st Birthday Party. Here is the cake I'm going to make, because I ate one (or two or three) Hostess Cupcakes every day throughout my pregnancy.

- March Madness is much less stressful when you forget to fill out a bracket. I have nothing to lose!
- Spring is here, and I have a new white purse to prove it.

- I'm currently very disinterested in the bathroom remodel project that Derek and I have had on the schedule for this weekend. He is working hard in the bathroom, I'm working on my blog.
- I'm very proud of Jessica and her new love of asparagus.
- Van loves his godparents.
- I love Nasonex. I'm finally getting over this four month sinus infection.
- Stay tuned for Easter pictures.
I'm about to admit something so revealing that I fully expect my friends to treat me differently after reading this post.
I love Marshmallow Peeps. And if that isn't weird enough, my favorite time to eat them is when the package has been open for more than a week and they are a little stale and hard to chew. Ewww! I'm gross!
I wonder if there are any more Peeps left...
We have been on the road. Check us out at the legendary Price Tower in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
