To celebrate my upcoming birthday, we went on a family outing to Norman. We had planned on going to the Tulsa Zoo, but we had to change our plans after the Saturday thunderstorms rolled in to town. So at the last minute we decided to go to Norman.
Derek and I get all weepy and reminiscent when we drive to Norman, and immediately start commenting that it feels like we are finally going home. It's where we met, home to good memories and of course, Sooner football. What do you think of Derek's Stoops-inspired visor?
Our trip down memory lane began with lunch at Bison Witches. The potato soup totally hit the spot on a rainy Saturday afternoon. Van went on a carb overload, gorging himself on any and all bread around us.
Then we headed to the Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History. Derek and I were hesitant of how well Van would respond to the exhibits, but he loved it. He walked around yelling "WHOA," (kind of like Joey on Blossom) pointing at everything from dinosaurs to other kids.
And finally, we didn't leave without enjoying Happy Hour at Classic 50s, where we sipped on Crimson and Cream slushes while noshing on Cajun Fries. Van figured out how to drink out of a straw! The slush was too tasty to pass up!
It was a great day. I am truly blessed.

That sounds like a GREAT day. Mmmm...Bison Witches. I get weepy going to Norman, too. Not weepy enough to move back (Lindsey Street every day?!), but still very nostalgic.
The worst is during football season, driving in for a game. Then I remember why I love that stinkin' town so much!
Why didn't you call us? We would have gone out to dinner with you guys! We haven't seen you in forever. I had better not hear of you coming here again without you calling us!
It's because Norman IS the place to be. I sometimes wish we lived there, too. Of course, I'm also there EVERY day, so it doesn't really matter. I'm with Michelle... next time let us know and we can all get together- my boys would LOVE to play with Van!
Looks like a fun filled day. I never lived in Norman, but oh, how I could have some Bison Witches right now. Their Potato Soup ROCKS!
Happy Early Birthday!
Thumbs up on the visor. Noticed last time I cruised through that the Sonic next to Classic 50's is gone. Victory at last!
We'll be getting some semblance of a schedule for SFC alumni weekend together here before long. You in?
I am up for a SFC reunion!
